This amazing water vortex sculpture made by William Pye is called Charybdis, and it is located in Seaham Hall, Sunderland, UK.

In Charybdis the circular movement of water inside a transparent acrylic cylinder forms an air-core vortex in the centre. Steps wrap around the cylinder and allow spectators to view the vortex from above. The cylinder was manufactured in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Charybdis is William Pye's largest vortex water sculpture to date, and he has used for only the second time the clear acrylic polymer he employed in Clearwater Cube. This material has enabled Pye to extend his sculptural language and to explore more ways in which to challenge the wayward element of water. A high level of water filtration is essential for maintaining transparency and thereby expressing the drama of the vortex.

The top few photos of the 1st vortex are taken at "Seaham Hall" Hotel,
part of the Hotel group I work for.

The entire hotel was recently renovated
with a life-size elephant statue making another fantastic water-feature in its
spa-basement.

If you can't think of anything complimentary, don't write
anything at all. It's a piece of art and a good one at that.

just because you don't agree with his thought that a vortex doesn't make a good
piece of art doesn't give you the right to shush him. Are some not bored or
unentranced by the works of rodin?

i personally find these pieces fantastic, as
a kid i often filled the sink up with water j...

How about taking it one step further-if you don't have anything new, original,
or interesting to say-don't comment at all! Oh yea, that would shut all these
comment boards down immediately! One more thing.....PHOTOSHOPPED!!
