Recently a lot of strange round-ice formations have been seen in Russia. People don’t know what causes ice to form big ice circles first and then smaller ones appear around the mother-formation.

it's actually not that rare or hard to explain. I see this every spring when
the broken ice comes down the missouri river. The circular shape is just a
result of the broken ice hitting against each other as it flows, similar to
erosion or a rock tumbler.

the spring would bring up warmer bottom
